| The Vessels
series is a |
| reflection
on the ways in |
|
which images acquire |
| additional
meanings when |
| artifacts
of an older culture |
| are
adopted and interpreted |
| by
a later one. I was inspired |
| by
a friend's collection of |
| antique
Chinese water jars, |
| that
had been used by |
| scholars
for calligraphy. |
| I
photographed the jars, |
| made
digital transparencies |
| of
the photos, and then |
| layered
them over collages |
| made
from monoprinted, |
| found
and prepared papers. |
| I
added small objects - old |
| Chinese
coins, mineral |
| toris,
beads and small |
|
gemstones. The result is a |
| combination
of illusion |
| and
tangible reality. |
